Hello again ….
This time we are going to find out a little more about a specific area of the island of Santorini.
We will be referring to the area between Fira and Imerovigli two of the most famous locations of the island.
The distance between the two landmarks is about 3 kilometers.
This is a nice 30 minute walk overlooking the Caldera basin the views of the volcanic islands and the whitewashed houses.
Considering the shape and architecture of the landscape Fira the islands Capital and Imerovigli are centrally placed.
The connection between the two is pretty amazing since through history and until now these areas were or actually are the so called capital of Santorini.
Imerovigli is the highest point of the caldera cliffs offering amazing and super romantic views. Back in time thought this location was not important in that way,
Yet it was a strategical location offering views of the surrounding ocean allowing locals to get prepared in case of pirates or hostile boat approaches.
The rock of Scaros was hosting a castle which worked as the watching tower of the day.
Around the castle a commercial and social life was developed and the area was soon considered one of the first capitals of Santorini .
Through time after earthquakes and volcanic activity the Castle of Scaros was destroyed and the social and commercial life of the island was moved to Fira which since then is considered the capital of Santorini .
Between these beautiful locations is Firostefani (the Crown of Fira) . This is where Ginger Sushi Lounge is located.
So walking from Fira to Imerovigli and through the beautiful pedestrians overlooking the amazing caldera basin you pass through Firostefani.
Have a stop at Ginger Sushi Lounge and enjoy the freshness of Aegean between your chopsticks.
